Animal Control is filled to the brim with very few adopters coming to visit these days. Most of the dogs you see here have very little chance of adoption at the current rate we've been going, even those that are the most adoptable! Please come save a life today! We need people who need dogs!

Swayze—Dog of the Week! - #28523
adoptable adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Swayze is in close to the poorest condition that I have ever seen in a dog. Thinking of his condition brings tears to my eyes because I can’t understand how anyone could ever allow a dog to suffer from such neglect. He is so emaciated that his hip bones, ribs, and sternum are protruding so far that they seem like they could break through the skin. Even the bones in his skull and around his eyes are very evident. He currently weighs only 38 pounds and is rather a tall so he should probably be around 50 pounds to be at a healthy weight. Because of his emaciation and lack of fat and muscle to cushion his bones he has pressure sores on his hips. In spite of his poor condition, he is willing to trust humans. He was very wary when I first entered his kennel but after a few moments he walked up to me and allowed me to scratch his back and put the leash around his neck. He absolutely loved spending time in the sunshine and grass and had the cutest doggie grin on his face. He actually welcomed receiving affection and enjoyed getting a good back scratch. If a dog ever received a second chance at life that dog is definitely Swayze. He has so much potential to give and receive love and will become a wonderful dog with proper guidance. Once he receives proper nutrition, preventative medicine, and quality flea and tick control his physical condition should improve and his coat should be a gorgeous chocolate brown so soft to the touch. It may take him a little longer to completely trust humans and enjoy just being a dog, but as long as his new owners are patient and provide proper exercise, rules, and boundaries he will eventually come around. Swayze is such a sweet boy and would love to complete your family!

Oscar - #28562
Why Choose Me?

Oscar is a senior citizen here at Athens pound! At 9 years old, Oscar is calm but he’s definitely got a kick to him. He loves being petted and jumps up for your attention. Oscar is fixed, walks perfectly on a leash, and seems to be potty trained because he went numerous times while he was out of his run. For a little dog, Oscar does not “yap” or bark like many small dogs do. He seems like the perfect package for anyone looking for a dog! Come out and see Oscar soon! His owners may not be out there and it would be a true shame for Oscar not to be able to live out the rest of his life in a loving home!

Sahara - #28554
Why Choose Me?

Sahara is a shy little girl who is a bit overwhelmed by her current situation. She is listed as a Basenji mix but I suspect that she may have some cattle dog somewhere in the mix, which would help to explain the gorgeous, red merle markings on her face and ears. Sahaara is not a very big girl and is nearly full grown at only 16 pounds. She is very shy and was unsure of me when I first entered her kennel. She ran inside to the safety and comfort of her bed but eventually came out to see who I was. Her curiosity eventually beat out her fear. She allowed me to scratch her chin and put the leash on so I could take her to an interaction pen. She is definitely unaccustomed to the leash and only walked a short distance before sitting down or backing up out of confusion. Once in the interaction pen she got more comfortable and would seek out my attention. She just needs to gain a little confidence and be more socialized around people. Once she is in a stable home she should become more confident, especially around those that she knows best. If you have been looking for a small, yet active, canine pal, come on out to animal control to meet sweet Sahara.

Jalapeno - #28555
Why Choose Me?

Jalapeño is one unique Chihuahua. His coat is primarily tan in color (so pale that it’s nearly white) but he has black stripes and markings throughout. He isn’t quite merle or brindle, but somewhere in between. His eyes also have some light-colored flecks, which is not uncommon among dogs with merle markings. His appearance is perfectly suited to his personality. He is a very goofy boy who loves to run, play, hop around, and roll around on the ground. He is just a fun loving guy! He walks very politely on the leash and just loves people. Like many Chihuahuas he is cautious at first; however, once he meets you and figures out that you’re not that bad, he wants to be your best friend. While Jalapeño does love people, enjoys being petted, and is itty bitty (only 9 pounds!), he’s not the type of Chihuahua that will be happy riding in little frilly bags or sitting in laps all day. He loves to run and play and enjoys just being a dog.

Jenkins - #28556
Why Choose Me?

Jenkins is a handsome hound mix who is nearly full grown at only 34 pounds. He comes to the pound already neutered and with knowledge of basic obedience. Jenkins walks politely on the leash with only the occasional correction and will sit and shake like the gentleman that he is. He does seem to be an active boy and I’m sure that he would make a great companion for another active dog or someone looking for a jogging or walking buddy. Jenkins would be more than happy to fill almost any role in the family.

Luke and Leia - #s28557-28558
Why Choose Me?

Luke and Leia were found all alone in a field on the first day of July. It’s hard for little pups to survive on their own, especially when the temperature is nearing 100 degrees and they can be easily dehydrated, so they were brought to the safety of animal control. They are currently being housed in the temporary kennels inside so they can stay nice and cool and be monitored throughout the day. Luke seems like a healthy boy and weighs 4 pounds. Leia is a little weaker and only weighs 2 pounds. She is a little on the thin side and seems malnourished, so the officers are taking special care of her. She was already a little stronger by the afternoon, so they think that she should be okay, especially since she has a regular meal and is in a climate-controlled area. These two little pups are so young that whoever adopts them will be completely responsible for the dogs they become as adults. Hurry out to meet these little ones if you want to be the ones to shape them into perfect, well-behaved doggies!

Judson - #28559
Why Choose Me?

Judson may look like an older fellow with that white muzzle but he’s actually only a year old. Like some people, he’s prematurely gray. Judson is a very polite boy who would never consider pulling on the leash or jumping up on people. He doesn’t seem to know any obedience commands, but he’s so laidback and easy to handle that he should pick-up on anything you would like him to learn in no time. He just wants his people to be happy. With his easy, laid-back personality and nice size (he only weighs 32 pounds) he should fit in most homes quite nicely.

Safari - #28560
Why Choose Me?

Safari is a beautiful boxer mix who weighs in at a solid 52 pounds. She is VERY interested in other dogs and will pull her hardest to meet any one that she sees. When there isn’t a dog around she is on her best behavior and will walk without pulling on the leash; however, if she sees another dog it’s tug-of-war between the handler and Safari and it’s hard to win unless you know how to properly correct a dog. Safari may just want to play with the other dogs, but it isn’t an option at the pound when there is so much keyed-up energy among the dogs and histories are unknown. Once she is adopted, she will need some work on the leash and proper socialization with other dogs so that she understands the proper way to greet other dogs. If Safari’s new owner does not have experience with bully breeds (or even if they do), I would recommend an obedience class so that Safari can be properly socialized in a very controlled environment and so that she can learn some other basic obedience. These classes are a lot of fun with a new pet because it is such a great bonding experience. Please don’t let Safari’s leash manners scare you off. She is a very sweet girl and absolutely loves people. Once she has no dogs around to distract her, she is all about getting ear and back scratching and gives lots of wet, slobbery kisses!

Mama - #28501 Dog of the week!
Why Choose Me?

Mama has such a sweet face- you are sure to fall in love with her the minute you see her! She has adorable ears and a beautiful fawn coloring. Unfortunately, Mama is dealing with some skin issues on her tail and ears, but she doesn’t let that get her down! She is still dying to play and be loved. She is a very well-mannered girl and used the bathroom as soon as we got her in the interaction pen. Please be sure to pay Mama a visit soon!

NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Chloe - #28535
Why Choose Me?

Chloe is a very, very sweet hound dog mix that has had a terrible start to life. She has wounds that appear to be the result of an imbedded collar; if only her owners had adjusted the collar as she grew, this would not have happened. Chloe is very submissive and gentle. She just wants to be near people and will lie down and roll over at your feet. Chloe is still quite young at about a year old, and would love to have a shot at a new life outside of this pound. Come see her soon!

Colby - #28536
Why Choose Me?

Colby appears to be a shepherd or cattledog type of mix. He is all smiles- a truly happy little dog. His ears are raw from fly bites, but they don’t seem to bother him one bit. He likes human attention but isn’t needy with it. This boy seems like he’d make a great companion; ready to play and run but not demanding. Colby would be a great size for just about any living situation as long as he’s given an opportunity to stretch his legs every day. This good-natured dog is ready for a home of his own that will spend time with him and not leave him outside during these hot summer days. Please visit Colby!

Queenie - #28537
Why Choose Me?

Calling all Boxer lovers! Queenie is a purebred girl who has found herself in doggy jail. She is a well-behaved dog that didn’t offer to jump up once. She certainly sought attention and companionship and knows that humans are good for lovin’ attention and back scratches. Queenie has been somebody’s companion. Hopefully her owners will come and find her here, but if not she will need someone to save her! Queenie is past her rowdy, wild puppy years (which can last a while for a higher- energy breed like her!), and is ready to settle into the routine and comfort of a safe, loving home.

Calypso - #28538
Why Choose Me?

Calypso is a very petite little pit mix. At first glance she appears black, but is in fact a very dark brindle color, which is very striking. Calypso has white tippy-toes and a perfect little stripe down her nose. She didn’t jump up once, and was more than content to sit next to me the entire time. Calypso is a little unsure here, but knows to seek human companionship, which should translate to her bonding very well with her new family. Calypso is only 35 lbs and may not grow too much more, making her a wonderful size for both active play and cuddle time, too!

Billy - #28539
Why Choose Me?

This goofy lovebug is being called ‘Billy’ by the officers at Animal Control. When he was surrendered to the pound, it appears that his owners didn’t even have a name for him! So even though he’s homeless now, he’s finally been given a name of his own. Billy spent some time with the litter to terrier puppies today, playing babysitter. He did very well with them, and enjoyed his time outside of the pen. Billy is one big lug of a dog, built like a tank but as gentle as can be. His expressive ears bounce forward and fall back at every noise, and his adorable under-bite could win over even the hardest heart. Come see him soon and fall in love with Billy!
Rescued! Thanks Ruffus Rescue!

Gulliver - #28540
Why Choose Me?

This babydoll is Gulliver! He is a very young shepherd mix puppy who is searching for a home of his own. Because Animal Control is currently packed to the brim with dogs, Gulliver is currently being kept in a holding pen in the back office- so please ask to see him! He’s still rather young, so his new owners will be responsible for his development and socialization. If you’re looking for a puppy, be sure to check out Gulliver!

Casper - #28541
Why Choose Me?

Casper is a beautiful young white German Shepherd mix. He has a tiny bit of tan on his ears and a big smile on his face. Casper hasn’t yet learned some proper puppy manners, but is eager to please. His new owners will enjoy spending the time to train him, especially since he is so sweet. Casper is already a medium- sized dog and still has some growing to do; I expect his weight to top out at the lower range of a purebred German Shepherd’s. He’s a fine young dog that will surely make a great family pet!
This is from the person who found Casper: The dog is a white shepherd/chow mix. This dog doesn't have a mean bone in its body! He was covered with fleas when we found him, but after a capstar and some flea spray he was feeling much better! He followed us around in the yard and just wanted to be petted. After a good head scratch, he'd roll over and present his belly for more scratching. After being left in the yard all night, he didn't mess up or destroy anything. This boy just wants to bond with someone and love them unconditionally!
The wonderful lady who found Casper and brought him to our shelter has offered any rescue group who saves him a $50 donation. If you are part of a licensed rescue group and you rescue Casper, email Allyson at athenspets@gmail.com.

Lewis and Clark - #s28543 and 28544
Why Choose Me?

Lewis (28543) and Clark (28544) are relatives sharing a run here at the pound. Lewis is the lighter- colored of the two, while Clark has more white on his chest. Both of these dogs are still nervous in the pound, and don’t seem to have had many positive interactions with humans. They will definitely need an owner that will use positive reinforcement instead of harsh punishment in order to build their trust. Initially, Lewis was bolder than his buddy, but neither of them is comfortable with the leash. They want to be friendly and come forward for interaction, but are very hesitant. Because the pound is so full, they’re being kept together. If you need a hand in taking out one of them from the run, don’t hesitate to ask! Lewis and Clark are bonded to each other but would much, much rather be adopted separately than die here together. Please come see them soon and give them a chance.

Cookie - #28545
Why Choose Me?

Cookie is a sad sight at the moment. She is a purebred Schnauzer who has not had the proper care and grooming her breed requires. Even though she has hot spots and hair loss on her hind legs combined with severe matting, her personality hasn’t been negatively affected by her neglect. Every once in a while, Cookie will kick her hind leg out when her matting pinches her skin too much, but other than that she is a loving, affectionate and bold little dog- the typical Schnauzer! Once Cookie’s given a nice grooming, and her skin and hot spots have a chance to heal up, she’ll look and feel much better!

Roscoe - #28546
Why Choose Me?

Roscoe is a sweet, very friendly dog. He’s some sort of spaniel mix with a larger head and thicker body. He’s still young but had pretty good manners, especially considering he was just picked up with his buddy, Franklin (28547). Roscoe did jump once or twice but was easily corrected. He’s a nice combination of playful and laid-back. Roscoe would love to get a ticket out of the pound, so please come and visit him!

Franklin - #28547
Why Choose Me?

Franklin is here with his buddy, Roscoe. He is shy and allows Roscoe to take all the attention. However, once he’s on his own, Franklin’s handsome good looks and even better manners are clear! He is uncertain with all the noise of his rowdy neighbors, but will settle down once he gets into a routine and home of his own. Franklin will come out of his shell easily so long as he’s not coddled when he’s scared. Even in a few days, Franklin should settle in some and let his good-nature shine through. Franklin is not leash- trained but will learn quickly; his second time on the leash was much improved from his first. If Franklin gets lots of visitors to come see him, he’ll become even more accustomed to the leash. If you needed an excuse to spend an afternoon at the pound helping the animals, here it is! Franklin will be ever- grateful!

Frank - #28549
Why Choose Me?

Frank is certainly in need of a good meal. He is thin and has some scars on his body, making him look a bit rough on the outside. However, this dog is one sweet, submissive and gentle guy! Frank is one of those dogs that ‘smiles’ at visitors while turning his head sideways and wagging his tail low to the ground. Though it looks like he’s showing his teeth, Frank doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, and lapped up attention like a pro. Once he gets some groceries in him, his ribs will no longer be visible, and his coat will shine. Despite his current condition, Frankhas a graceful way of moving, and it’s obvious he will become a beautiful dog in just a short time!

Lucy and Ricky - #s28552, 28553
Why Choose Me?

Lucy and Ricky have found themselves in trouble again! They are what the officers consider ‘frequent flyers’ to the pound. Ricky is the male Corgi mix, and Lucy is the 3 year old female Cocker Spaniel mix. They had just arrived while I was leaving, so I didn’t have a chance to take them both out. However, they were both very friendly and certainly used to human interaction. Ricky has the quirky but handsome features of a Corgi, and Lucy is a blondie with a cute personality to match! If Lucy and Ricky’s owners don’t come to claim them (as it gets more expensive to reclaim them each time they are caught running loose) this time, they will definitely need a savior or two!! Currently, Lucy and Ricky are located in the back of the office due to a shortage of space, so please ask if you don’t see them out!

BOTH RECLAIMED!:)

Macie - #28521
adoptable adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Macie is a cute little girl. She appears to be some sort of Jack Russell Terrier mix, maybe with beagle somewhere in her gene pool. She is nearly full grown and only weighs 15 pounds. She should stay a small to medium-sized dog once fully grown. Like most Jack Russells (and mixes too) she is very energetic and absolutely loves to run and play. She will need adequate exercise—a romp in the yard, good walk, or playtime with a canine pal—to stay healthy, happy, and out of trouble. Even though she is a rather small dog, she is not one who will be content just sitting in laps; she needs to run and play! Macie also knows some basic obedience; she sits and downs on command and will walk politely on the leash with the occasional correction. She has most of the basics down so she would probably enjoy some sort of obedience class so she can learn even more commands. With the pound as full as it is and adoption rates so low, even little dogs like Macie aren’t getting adopted. If you think that Macie would be a good fit for your family, hurry out to meet her!

Jazzy - #28522
adoptable adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Jazzy seems to have not had the best life lately. She is very malnourished and thin and has a coarse, dry coat. She also has flea strikes on her ears, which has to be rather uncomfortable. She currently weighs only 35 pounds and should probably be at least forty pounds (if not more) to be at a healthy weight. Her physical ailments should be easy to treat with proper nutrition and appropriate flea and tick control. Jazzy seems to be torn between not trusting humans and lavishing them with doggie affection. When we first got her out of her kennel she was very uncomfortable on the leash and walked as far away from us as possible. After she spent some time in the interaction pen she decided that she wanted to run and play. She was acting just like a teenage puppy with her tongue lolling out and her legs flailing in all directions. She was having an absolute blast! She brightened our day with that gorgeous pitbull smile and was so happy-go-lucky. She enjoyed a nice back scratch and belly rub and acted like a dog who was accustomed to being the center of attention. I suspect that Jazzy will be one of those dogs that blooms and flourishes in a stable home where she received regular exercise and boosts to confidence as well as appropriate rules and boundaries. Once she gains some confidence and more trust in humans she will be a happy-go-lucky girl all of the time.

Tolkien - #28524
adoptable adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Tolkien is such a delight to be around. He walks like a perfect gentleman on the leash and seems to know that he’s a good looking dog because he has a bit of pep in his step. He has luxurious black fur and a long tail that he enjoys waving behind him like a flag. He seems to think that he’s quite a looker. Even though he is not yet neutered, he hasn’t developed any of the negative behavioral traits often associated with unneutered dogs, such as excessive marking. He seems to be a very good boy! In addition to being wonderful on the leash, he sits on command, especially is he knows that he will be receiving a treat as a reward. Tolkien is the type of dog who would love a nice long walk (or jog!) around the neighborhood and then some quiet time being lavished with praise. He would be a great fit for most active families!

Moonpie - #28525
adoptable adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Moonpie is such a stunning dog! He has a gorgeous red coat with milky white patches. I just love the huge white patch on his face. Moonpie is a rather shy fellow and is a bit wary of people, especially men. He walks on the leash politely but quickly shies away when corrected or someone makes quick movements. He needs some time in a calm, stable home so he can gain some confidence. He is still a young dog at less than a year old so he should be able to regain his confidence quickly and learn the rules of being a family dog. He shouldn’t be getting too big since he only weighs 35 pounds right now and has a small frame.

Clyde - #28527
adoptable adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Clyde looks like such a clown with the patches on his eyes, black lip-liner, and goofy grin on his face. While he may look like a goofy boy he is actually very sad here at the pound. He was happy to have visitors taking him on a walk and spending time with him but it was obvious that he was pining for his family. He is very confused as to why he is at the pound and not at home where he belongs. He does walk very politely on the leash and will sit and down on command so someone has obviously put some time into teaching him how to be a good boy. He is fully grown at 62 pounds but is so quiet and polite that he seems like a smaller dog. He will need a new family to adopt him and take him home if his currently family does not come and reclaim him. Clyde is such a sweet boy that he would be a great fit in most homes. He just asks that you never allow him to end up at the pound again.

Finch - #28532
adoptable adoptable adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Finch is such a handsome boy! He looks almost exactly like a black lab except his has a very long tail and lanky legs. Finch is a little confused right now but really enjoyed the time he spent with us outside of his kennel. He walks nicely on the leash and will occasionally sit for a treat. He needs a bit of work in the training department, but what better way is there to bond with your new dog than taking an obedience class together? Labrador retrievers (and mixes too) and typically high energy dogs that need regular exercise so that they stay healthy, happy, and out of trouble and I suspect that Finch is no different. Labs are also known to make perfect family pets and I’m sure that Finch would love to prove that to you. He is already neutered so he only needs to be updated on his vaccines before he is ready to go to his new home.

Dapple - #28533
adoptable adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Dapple is a little dachshund mix who appears to have beagle somewhere in her gene pool. She is a little girl who weighs only 14 pounds. She still has some growing left to do, but she should still be a rather small dog once fully grown. She already knows how to walk politely on the leash and will sit like a pretty lady for a treat. Even though Dapple is a little girl, she will still need appropriate rules and boundaries so that she doesn’t think that she rules the roost, as some little dogs have the tendency to do.

Delgado - #28509 Urgent Case! Owner Surrender!
adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

It is a true shame that poor Delgado has ended up in the pound! Delgado is very nervous about his surroundings and spends most of the time in the inside part of his run. When I came in to see him, he came off very shaky and unsure. He showed absolutely NO signs of aggression. It took Delgado a few minutes but he eventually warmed up and calmly walked outside his run. Once on a leash, Delgado walked politely to my side. Delgado could be potty trained because he went to the bathroom for a long time like he had been holding it inside his run. He is a true sweetheart and deserves a home away from the pound. I am sure that he would do great with kids, as he is so gentle and calm. Come in and see Delgado, even if it takes a few minutes for him to warm up to you!

Troy - #28511
adoptable adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Troy is a striking young Siberian husky. By looking at his pictures, it is obvious a dog like Troy should not be in the pound! The heat is probably getting to poor Troy because huskies do not do well in the hot weather. Troy would be much more comfortable inside a home with AC. He appears to be leash and potty trained. Troy enjoys interacting with people and he seems to get along great with younger kids. I watched Troy’s interaction with 2 younger girls and I’m certain he would make a perfect family dog! Don’t let this gorgeous dog get away, come and see Troy today!

ADOPTED!:)

Tommy - #28503
Why Choose Me?

Tommy is a typical teenage boy! He is full of energy and is a ton of fun to play with! He loved running around the interaction pen and getting attention. Tommy would be a great dog to take jogging or hiking. He is also a very handsome boy, with a healthy coat and a very cute black muzzle! If you are looking for a fun and playful dog, Tommy would be a great addition!

NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Molly - #28506 Urgent Case!!
Why Choose Me?

Molly is less than a year old and she will definitely grow to be a great dog! While she is very playful and loves the company of people, she is also responsive to discipline and is well-mannered. She loves attention and wants nothing more than to be out of her cage so she can run around and play! Molly is the perfect age to be introduced to a new family. Come by and see this cutie!

Teddy - #28508
Why Choose Me?

Teddy is certainly a little guy- he is only a couple of pounds right now! Most likely he will stay on the small side even when he is full grown. Teddy has the most adorable face- with his brown puppy eyes and cute tan eyebrows! Teddy was somewhat apprehensive at first, but after he warmed up he was ready to play and was bouncing around the pen! Come meet Teddy- he is too cute to pass up!

Jersey, Dakota, York, Carolina, Kansas, & Georgia- #28485-28490
Why Choose Me?

This is one litter filled with very cute puppies! They each weigh around 6 pounds so I would expect them to be at least medium-sized dogs once fully grown. Each puppy has unique markings even though they all look very similar at first glance. York and Kansas are the only boys in the litter; York (28487) is solid black and Kansas (28489) is mostly black with some white on his chest. The girls have more interesting markings. Jersey (28486) is the black girl with white on her paws, chest, and nose…very cute!! Dakota (28487) is the solid black girl who looks very much like York. Carolina (28488) is the easiest to identify because she is the only primarily brindle puppy. Her adorable appearance is completed with white accents on her paws, chest, and face. Georgia (28490) is also very unique because she has a solid black body with brindle marking on her legs, chest, and face. These puppies are all very cute and need some responsible pet owners to adopt them. They are still young enough to be enrolled in puppy class where they can be properly socialized and learn some basic obedience. Their owners could also get some valuable help with potty training. These puppies are so young that their new owners will be completely responsible for the dogs they become as adults. These puppies already seem to be rather playful and outgoing so their new owners have a wonderful base to start training. Hurry on out to animal control to meet these cutie pies!

All rescued! Wow! Thanks Athens Canine Rescue!

Boston - #28499
adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Boston is very shy and would not come out of his kennel to see me. Because of his shyness and lack of confidence animal control officers prefer him to go to a rescue where he can be properly socialized and rehabilitated before going to his permanent home. He isn’t a very big boy (full grown at only 43 pounds) and is not as shy as some others dogs who have come through the pound. He displayed no aggressive behavior during my time with him; he was slightly curious but not confident enough to come up to meet me.
Boston is coming out of his shell and now really enjoys spending time with volunteers out of his kennel. He is still a little shy, but he definitely has a cute and playful personality that is beginning to shine. He does have a neck wound from an ingrown collar, so he is a little sensitive when those sores are aggravated. Officers are confident that Boston would do fine in a normal home, so he is now available for general adoption. He has been here for nearly a week without any applications, so hurry out to meet this cutie pie!

Buster - #28475 Urgent Case!!
adoptable adoptable
Why Choose Me?

Buster is a handsome brindle bulldog who is in very good condition - he is not overweight and he appears very clean. Buster wasn't very active when we took him out of his kennel, but that probably has something to do with the hot temperatures outside. Due to the breed's popularity around here, this guy won't be here too long, so hurry out to meet him soon!
Update: This is one cool dog! He's still here and in need of a home as of Monday! He's very well-behaved. Hurry!
Update: Buster was adopted out and returned to the pound when his new owner could not afford the eye surgery that Buster will need. Because of this, Buster is now considered an Owner- Surrender and is going to need a rescue group to come through for him since his chances of getting adopted again are slim with his time being so limited. There is a $50 donation available to the rescue group who adopts Buster to help with his eye surgery.

RESCUED! THANKS PETZONE RESCUE! A representative from Petzone, please email Allyson at athenspets@gmail.com.

Gentlemen of the Jury: The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us, may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads.

The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer. He will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.

If fortune drives the master forth, an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even in death.
