This site is updated several times a week, but isn't up-to-the-minute accurate. For the most current info on a dog or cat, call Athens Animal Control and refer to the animal by ledger number, not name.
Timeliness is essential in adoption or rescue. Don't delay.
The shelter is often full, so owner-surrendered animals and those who have been there the longest are always in danger of euthanization.

Heartworm Treatment Fundraiser
We’re raising funds so we can begin to treat our heartworm positive dogs while they are still at the shelter! If a dog is rescued or adopted before being treated, we’ll pass the donations along to a vet to help with the treatment costs. Any amounts raised that are not needed for the dog for which they were donated will be applied towards the treatment cost of another dog. No donation amount is too small to help!
