Why choose Me? Bear is an owner surrender, and very scared at the shelter. There’s all kinds of noises and he just doesn’t know what to think. One of our wonderful volunteers got in the kennel with him and talked to him and sat with him for a while; as you can see from the pictures, he warmed right up and loves to have his belly rubbed. He has the cutest ears, like a bear, they move around whenever he is interested in something (like treats). He has fluffy black fur and adorable brown markings which help make up his lovable features. Please come in and see him, let him know he’s a good dog for somebody to love. Update 1/25: Bear has no rescue or adoption applications Update 1/26: If you sit with Bear for a few minutes, he will warm up to you and leave his kennel for a walk. Once out, you can see what a wonderful dog he is! He’s gentle on a leash and loves to be petted and praised. He has a gorgeous long coat and beautiful tail that just wags and wags once he feels comfortable with you. Take the time to get to know Bear. He’s a gentle and loving boy. Why choose Me? This little gang just arrived when these pictures were taken, so that’s why they look a little scared and stunned. They were in the midst of getting their rabies shot and worming meds, and appreciated being held and snuggled while that was going on. They are owner surrenders, so they are starting out on borrowed time Mama looked like a black German shepherd, and with those giant paws, these babies look like they’ll be mama’s size too. They are quite an armful already! They look pretty similar – 3 of them are all black and one has a bit of white on chin, chest and back toes. One of the solid blacks has shorter, lab-like fur. Once they get settled into their run, no doubt they’ll be feeling a little more adventuresome and will be ready to romp with each other and with volunteers. Why choose Pearl? Perhaps we will have better pictures of Pearl in the days to come, but as an owner-surrender, I wanted to make sure we got her sweet face out to the world ASAP. Pearl came in while I was photographing today. Her owner has been hit by hard times and couldn’t care for her anymore. Pearl was scared and confused. She sat in the back of her run where she was placed and wouldn’t move–she just sat there panting. I asked her if she wanted to go for a walk with me but she was just frozen, so I opened her run door (she certainly wasn’t darting anywhere), and sat down with her for a while. Why choose Me? Bandit is an owner surrender. I have two words for this dog: Gentle Giant. He even climbed on my lap. Bandit’s appearance can be intimidating at first. But one of the other volunteers told me she took him out walking and he was calm. She was absolutely correct, he is a peaceful dog on your leash. And have you seen those eyes? Why choose Me? This bundle of joy is only 17 pounds! Pickles was very cold and wouldn’t come out of his run for the longest time! But as soon as he mustered up the warmth he was all about the attention. He has a beautiful diluted white brindle coat! He’s so sweet and funny! Come bring him home, the pound is no place for a dog with this much spirit! Update 1/27: The first time I met Pickles, it took him two hours to even get close to me. I sat in his kennel with him until he would let me carry him outside. Then, whenever something would scare him, he would climb on me as though wanting a hug and hide in my coat. Today, Pickles is an ambitious puppy – as all puppies should be. He’ll come out and greet you, and he loves to play in the pens and on a leash. I also saw him try to make other dog friends today. Why choose Delilah? What a lovely lady! Delilah is a social butterfly; she wants to meet every person and every dog and she notices everything going on around her. She was very happy to have a leash put on and she walked nicely, except for jumping up a little bit. She did like to hide behind my legs while spotting what was going on; she didn’t seem shy at all, but she wanted to be touching her person while checking out the world! Parson terriers are very active and intelligent dogs. Delilah would likely fit well into a number of situations, including a playful family or an active student. Come check out this beauty today! Why choose Me? Angel is a bit nervous here at the pound, so her pictures don’t do justice to how pretty this petite sweetie is, but they definitely give you an idea of how much she craves human love. Once she was on a lap or had some arms around her she felt much better. At 35 pounds she doesn’t officially fall into the lapdog category, but don’t tell her that! Angel must be someone’s special girl because she walks beautifully on a leash and looks clean and healthy. If her owners don’t find her, she will make a FANTASTIC best friend for just about anybody! Why choose Hershey? Jail-pic alert! Hershey is a wonderful little man, but he is unsure of where he is (he was picked up stray). Unlike some small dogs, he doesn’t translate that fear into growling or nipping. He trembles a little, but he wants to be loved. I sat with him for a little while and after tossing him a couple kibble, he came and ate some from my hand. I didn’t want to force him from his safe little blanket pile in his pen, so we just took pics in there so you could see how handsome he is. In a stable and more peaceful environment, Hershey would surely blossom into the gentleman he is–please come meet him today, and remember he might be in an inside run instead of the outside runs, so ask at the front and don’t miss him! Why choose Me? Joshua wants to be friendly, but he’s just so scared here he didn’t want to come out of his run. You could tell he wanted to, and in another day or two no doubt he’ll be trotting right up to people. He’s Jack Russell sized, but looks like he’s got some muscle on that little body! Why choose Me? Maurice is a sturdy young man. He’s very skittish, but with a lot of patience he willingly came out of his run. Once out of his run he loved to walk around and find out more about the other dogs! He’s nervous to be petted but he’s very unsure about where he is, so that’s understandable. Why choose Me? Elvis is a hound mix, so he just had to be named Elvis. He is a shy, sweet dog. I also noticed him to be quiet, he didn’t sing too much while I was there. Why choose Me? Can you say good on a leash and knows how to sit? Fiddler is a well behaved little man. Not really a puppy, but not quite full grown yet. He loves his friend Banjo, and they like to take walks together and play. And how cute are those ears? Fiddler’s coloring is pretty unique, he will make for a very well behaved friend for life and my guess is he is quite a fast learner too. Why choose Me? You want a dog who loves his belly rubbed? You have found him! Banjo was upside down for most of his photo shoot. What a lover-boy. Banjo is also good friends with Fiddler, currently they share a kennel together. He has a sweet face and sweet eyes. He seems to be between puppy and adult stages too, not quite either. Why choose Me? I think Baxter felt like he should be able to walk himself. He could have too, but he kept looking up at me for attention and affection. He was a little jumpy when startled, but didn’t jump on me. He may have been bitten by something on his nose while out on adventures previous to being at the shelter. Why choose Me? Oh Fritz is definitely housebroken. I felt so sorry for him, as soon as I took him out all he could do was go to the bathroom. Why choose Me? Sierra is a very photogenic dog, she was quick and easy to do a photo shoot with. No problems getting her attention, she just liked to look at everyone as she was enjoying her walk. Why choose Me? I can’t get over how tiny this little pup is. His head was barely the size of my hand. Romeo is in the kennels along with all the big dogs. I took him out to wander the outside kennels, but his little size made me just want to hold and carry him instead – which he preferred as well. Why choose Me? Sometimes Chihuahuas can be a little chatty, Precious didn’t say a word. Her age is listed, but she may be a little bit older. She didn’t really need a leash but she was so tiny I was afraid I might lose her. She is sweet, tiny, and quiet. She could be somebody’s designer dog to spoil and carry around in a purse. Why choose Me? Grover’s kennel tag says “I’m a little shy please go slow”, but I didn’t find Grover to be shy with me. He was happy to have the attention and definitely good walking on a leash. What I did notice, however, is that Grover may need to be an only dog. He’s brand new to the shelter and he was just not liking other dogs, but that could possibly be first day jitters. Why choose Minnie? Minnie was one of a litter of four pups, and is the last one left waiting for a home. This is through no fault of her own – all the pups were equally sweet and and all looked basically alike. Just the luck of the draw that Minnie is left. She had an application, but it fell through, so she is really living on borrowed time. There’s nothing not to love about Minnie – she loves people, loves to play and is full of kisses. He LOVES being held, especially on a cold morning! He is one of the most well-behaved puppies I have known in a long time. Why choose Layla? Layla is a very pretty lady. She is getting older and her joints are becoming more painful, so a home where Layla could relax would be ideal. However, she is a sweet dog, and loved walking around with me. She is still strong, so don’t let her age fool you! Why choose Me? Please don’t judge this poor guy by his picture. He hurt himself trying to escape his run, so we had to keep him in there until he could get some attention from the vet. That being said, Vincent is an owner surrender which means he has very little time here and the pound is very full! He was surrendered because he attacked a cat. He’s friendly towards people, but should be in a home where he is the only pet, no other dogs or cats. Update 01/23/2012: Vincent was such a wonderful gentleman today! I took him out to replace his initial “jail” pics, and he was a doll! He does know some basics like “sit,” and he is very treat motivated. He takes treats with a soft mouth and walked nicely on the leash. Vincent was friendly and play-bowing to some of the dogs I took out near his run (like a little JRT girl), but barky toward others. Why choose Comet? These boys were so sad when they first came to Animal Control. They were both starving and not feeling well. It ended up that both Prancer and Comet had a mouth full of ulcers which was making it very painful to eat. After some canned food and lots of tlc these boys have recovered well. As you can tell from the pictures……they are beautiful! Along with good looks they have wonderful personalities. Why Choose Us? Ollie, Allie and Ellie are adorable! Ollie and Allie (the two black cats) are super friendly, and are over the moon with even just the teensiest bit of affection you show them. Ellie is a little more shy, but she’s very sweet, and once she’s able to trust that she will be loved and cared for, she will really blossom! Why choose Rosie? Rosie is a sweet little girl that desperately wants to be in her forever home, because the shelter’s a little too noisy for her tastes. Why choose Tommy? This cute baby (together with his sister, Jade, who has been adopted) was brought to Animal Control in a trap. He was semi-feral, so lots of volunteers and the staff at animal control have been working hard to help him come out of his shell. Slowly, but surely he is opening up and revealing his adorable kitten personality. With a little time and patience, Tommy will make a wonderful addition to any family! The Dog Shelter is in DESPERATE need of dry Purina or Pedigree puppy food. The Shelter is also very low on dry Purina/ Pedigree adult dog kibble. Please consider donating some if you are able.Capstar, which can be purchased at Pet Supplies Plus, a veterinary clinic, or online. Tapeworm medication. Good Grooming Shears. Many dogs that arrive at ACCAC have fleas and/or ticks, which is why Capstar and flea preventative for all sized dogs is needed (Frontline Plus, Advantage). ACCAC has had lots of lactating mommas, litters of puppies, and malnourished babies in recent weeks so they’re in need of Esbilac puppy milk replacer.

It was so chilly and wet, so I put her in the kuranda bed on her blanky before I left so she could be comfy. With more positive interaction she will be more outgoing. Pearl may be a senior lady but she has plenty of snuggle years left to share; wouldn’t you like a warm ball of curls to snuggle up to??
She’s a sweet, loving little girl, and loves to be walked on the leash. She seems very calm and well-behaved. Rose is also pen mates with Lilly, they love each other. Come see both of them!
