Animal Control is in need of CANNED FOOD, both adult AND puppy, preferably not the Ol’ Roy brand as many of our dogs will not eat it and it has next to no nutritional value. We could also use dog treats, particularly the soft and “yummy” variety (no rawhides)! THANKS in advance for any donations you can offer our pups!

Finnegan is a good-spirited, sweet-hearted boy with a beautiful black coat and tuxedo chest. He was very interested in everything happening at the shelter, but I was able to capture his attention with treats. He seems to be housebroken, and knows how to sit. I do hope that if he has people, they find him, but if not, with the right amount of discipline and training, Finnegan can become a treasured member of your family. Come meet him today!
What an ADORABLE pair of brothers! Both Orville and Wilbur were very polite when I came to visit them today, and they each have excellent, calm, and friendly temperaments. Orville is the larger of the two, and his coat is more grey than Wilbur’s. He is also less excitable than his brother, and appears to be the more dominant of the two (although they both were submissive towards me – a good thing!). They are both in desperate need of grooming, as evidenced by their barely visible eyes. I loved spending some time with these guys today. Sapphire is a lovely little lady who was surrendered to the shelter because her family was moving and can’t take her with them. Sapphire is a sweet little girl with the best personality. Though she is bouncy and playful, she knows how to play gently. Sapphire’s owners say that she does well with other dogs. She is partially housebroken and good with kids. Sapphire has been a good student and has learned some basic commands like sit and lie down. Because Sapphire is an owner surrender and the shelter is soo full, she does not have much time. Please don’t wait a second and come and scoop this really gem up!
Jackson and Suki (#29949) were surrendered together by someone who was moving and was unwilling/unable to take them. Unfortunately, as owner surrenders, their time is very limited and the pound is very full right now. Suki and Jackson deserve a new life with a family who will make them a priority! Jackson is the more shy of the pair, and is very scared of his situation. It took him a few moments to warm up to me and allow me to take him out of his run. Please don’t let this deter you, because once we got out and he trusted me, he was as sweet as ever and just wanted to be held. I couldn’t get over how adorable this little fuzz ball is. His face will just make you melt! Don’t hesitate to come by and see this sweet pup soon!

• Ledger Number: 29930 This jolly fuzzball had a hard time staying still for a photo. Bonnie is a sweet, plump bundle of fun who wants nothing more than to bounce around and play. Everyone she meets is an instant friend, and every object she finds is a potential toy, including the leash, which she wanted to tug-o-war with. At her very young age, it’s hard to tell what breeds might be in Bonnie’s background, but Labrador and Chow are a good guess. She has a slightly foxy face, hazel eyes, and a thick downy-soft coat that’s solid black except for a white smudge on her chin. Her ears haven’t decided yet whether to prick up or fold over. Her stocky legs and solid build indicate she might grow into a medium-large dog. If you’re ready for all the responsibilities and joys of raising a puppy to be a good canine citizen, Bonnie is your girl!
• Ledger number: 29931 What a lovely, graceful and athletic girl Tigerlily is! She looks to be in great shape, with a muscular build and a striking pale-red and charcoal-gray brindled coat highlighted with white. She has been a mom in the past, but has a youthful figure and a playful, outgoing nature. She is familiar with the leash but pulls a bit, and will need lots of regular exercise to expend her energy and keep her mentally stimulated. She knows how to sit perfectly for a treat―once you show her the treat and say “sit,” her rump is down! She doesn’t hold the position long if you’ve got something really yummy like I did today―Tigerlily gave me a gentle hug to let me know I was being too slow with both the treat and the camera! This big girl would do well in a home with a strong, patient human who can keep teaching her the skills she needs to lead a happy, balanced life.
Redmond is very handsome, but much, much smaller than your typical Lab. He has been well cared for so far- he looks great. Redmond lived in a home with a small child, and did well with her as long as the child was supervised and not allowed to poke/hit/kick/pull on him. Redmond’s previous owner reports that he is housebroken, needs chews and chew toys so he won’t chew inappropriately, doesn’t jump fences or dig, liks riding in the car, isn’t afraid of loud noises, is great with other dogs, barks when someone comes to the door, and hasn’t yet had any obedience training. Redmond is the perfect age to bond strongly with a new owner that can commit to caring for him the rest of his life. Stop by to meet this happy boy soon! 03/09 Due to some circumstances, Redmond is no longer considered an owner surrender. Redmond will have to be held for the five day holding period. Please come down and meet this sweet boy!
Chipper was found wandering around by herself. Chipper is TINY puppy at only 4..5lbs. She is so small she can’t be in a kennel, and is instead in a small cage in the back, inside of AC. When Chipper was found, she had sores on her chin and tongue that were bleeding. Thanks to donations to the ATHENSPETS.NET FUND, Chipper was able to be taken to the vet and has medication. Please consider donating to the athenspets.net fund so that other dogs like Chipper can go to the vet when needed. Ask for Chipper at the front desk when you come in- she’s a cutie!
• Ledger Number: 29933 Handsome and sweet Alistair is quite insecure about being in the noisy, chaotic shelter and seems to be looking for his human to come to his rescue. He’s a loving, affectionate boy who warms up to people quickly once he realizes you mean him well. His kennel card lists him as a Rottweiler mix, but other than his black-and-tan markings, he doesn’t look Rottie at all. His build, gait, and mannerisms are those of a small herding dog; he’s lean and wiry, and runs low to the ground, circling as he checks everything out. Alistair looks to be in good shape physically, with a clean healthy coat and bright eyes. Once he gets into a comfortable home environment where he feels secure, he should lose his nervousness and settle right in.
Huey is really cute dog that his happy and full of life and love. Huey came in with Luey- these are both great dogs that would love to meet you.

Sam is a very pretty young pup. His coat is thick and glossy. If you’ve been wanting a friendly happy boy with a pretty coat, come check Sam out- he’d love to hang out with you. Update 3/8: I was able to spend some time with Sam today. As someone who grew up with a Newfoundland, I can attest to how incredible this breed is. Don’t be afraid of Sam’s size – they’re called “gentle giants” for a reason! Newfs are smart, kind, and loveable. Sam has a lot of energy, and is a beautiful dog who would will do great with someone who is dedicated to training him properly!
Roxanna is such a sweet old girl. This little girl was tied outside with no one to keep her company. Roxanna is looking for a place to call home and a soft bed to sleep in. Don’t let her weight fool you. Roxanna is a very short little girl Roxanna is a very mellow girl. She walks well on the leash and isn’t interested in anything but getting as much love as she can. Roxanna is very shy and scares easily but there is not a mean bone in her body. Roxanna may look a little rough now with her crusty eyes, brittle hair, and chipped teeth but this sweet girl will really shine once she gets proper care. Please hurry down to animal control and meet this sweet girl.
Coach is smaller, full-grown Rottie Mix. This big boy is just a lovable goof ball. Coach was found by some kind people that brought him to us so that he would be safe and not get hurt running down the road. The people who found Coach, kept him over night. They said that he didn’t ever have an accident i the house. They also said that he could jump over a 4ft fence, so this big boy will need a taller fence to keep him safe.
Lil’Bit was found wandering all by herself. This little pup is super sweet and just adores everyone. Come check out this little guy!
Jake is a BIG, goofy boy. Jake must have just wandered away from home because he looks very well taken care of. Jake probably could stand to lose a few pounds. Jake has a very sweet personality. He is very mellow and just loves being around other people. Jake is good with other dogs. This big lover boy is looking some love. Won’t you come and meet this love bug?
Stanley was found on Lexington Rd, wandering around on his own. Luckily a kind person scooped him up so he didn’t get hit by a car. Stanley’s ears have a life of their own, and Stanley is a nice pup, and not too big either! Stop by to meet this pretty tri colored boy soon.
Tank is so named because he is very stout, even while needing to gain a few pounds. He has a huge block head with eyes that just beg for attention. Tank allowed me to look at his teeth and play with his feet; I honestly think he didn’t care as long as he was being touched! He was not reactive at all to other dogs and came across as friendly. Tank doesn’t jump up, takes treats politely, and knows sit very well. Although no couch potato, he’s not hyper either. I was easily able to walk him even though I’m a small person. My time is up! Hurry in to give me a forever home!
Handsome is a wonderful dog! He is so loving and all he wants to do is cuddle. He is food motivated and seems like he will be pretty easy to train. He is just a good boy who needs a great home! Come on by and meet Handsome! Update 2/28: The name Handsome fits him; this guy is a perfect specimen of physical beauty for the bully-breed lover. He’s in excellent, well-muscled shape, has a sleek healthy coat free of scars and signs of wear-and-tear, a big, blocky Staffie head, sweet golden eyes, and the happy look of a well-adjusted “tuff-guy.” Though he’s very strong and energetic and pulls on the leash because he’s eager to explore, he seems to have a super temperament. He enjoys petting, cuddling, and treats, really likes attention from people, and from what I saw is not dog aggressive. He was very interested in meeting the dogs he walked by, but didn’t show any hyper-vigilant warning signs. He barks in his kennel, but it’s a “pay attention to me, please” bark, not a territorial one. Handsome looks so well cared-for that I hope his human will come and take him home, but I wish they’d agree to have him neutered, because we’ve seen too may good-lookin’ red-nosed Pits come into the AC and not make it back out.
If you’re looking for an active buddy, look no farther! Jetta is a silly, crazy, driven pup who gets so worked up sometimes she can’t help but do some high-pitched barking. She is extremely smart, already knows sit, and I was luring her into a “down” position in seconds. Jetta would make a great agility or maybe flyball dog, or simply a fantastic jogging partner (when she’s older and has stopped growing–jogging with a puppy can damage their joints). If I didn’t already have 4 dogs, I would snatch her up for myself, that is how impressed I am with her. When walking on a leash, she will even stop and look back at you if she feels tension. She’s really fun to watch and will entertain herself.
Fred “Freddie” Flintstone
Fred is such a cutie. He has all the energy of a puppy but gets tired in about 5minutes flat. He will run and play hard and then collapse on the ground. He loves to sit by you and cuddle up to your legs. He wants to interact with everything around him. Fred is very curious as most puppies are. He will need a family who will teach him all the tricks of the trade, so he can grow up to be one well mannered pup!
Rockstar is a very pretty, fluffy boy. He is a bit overweight right now and needs to lose some weight. Rockstar’s gorgeous coat needs daily brushing and car so that it doesn’t get matted. Rockstar would do best in a quieter home, perhaps one with no small children as he gets startled easily and his previous owner says he has never been around children in his 3 years of life. Rockstar has lived with 3 different female dogs and done well with them. Rockstar is well housebroken, and is scared of loud noises. If you want a gentle, quiet, well behaved shy dog to add to your life, Rockstar may be the one for you. Rockstar is an owner surrender (his owner surrendered him due to lack of time and money) and so his time is VERY limited as the pound is BURSTING FULL now. Hurry! Rockstar was adopted from ACCAC back when he was a puppy. If you adopt Rockstar, ask to see his puppy pic/have it emailed to you. Rockstar was an absolutely adorable baby, and he is a handsome dog now. Hurry! My time is up! Hurry in to give me a forever home!
Macgruber is such a fabulous dog! She is an owner surrender so her time is limited. She is full of energy and loves to give kisses! She is a happy go lucky girl who will love to play with anyone! Come on by and meet this sweet girl!
Presley is a very pretty, slender and graceful looking pup who would love to meet you. Prettier pics of this pretty girl to come soon! Update 2/28: Presley was brought in by herself, so is alone in a run, and she is a lonesome baby girl. She really appreciated being taken out by visitors today, and when I visited her in her run, she bounced all around, got in my lap, gave liberal kisses, gobbled treats, and cried when I had to go. Presley has fairly big paws for a tiny pup, and may grow to be medium-large. She has huge, imploring eyes that say, “take me away from all this!” and very dapper tuxedo markings–white chest blaze and white toe-shoes on all four paws. She’s really everything you’d want in a puppy. Update 3/4: Presley loves, loves other dogs and just can’t contain herself when one is near. She is definitely very lonely at animal control. She likes to use her paws a lot, and this can be a sign of intelligence in dogs. Sponsorship money is available for a licensed rescue group who saves this sweet girl. Phoenix a such a sweet little boy. He is a little shy at first, but warm up pretty quickly. He was found with his sister wandering down Pitt Road. He loves to cuddle and needs a great home! Please don’t overlook Elijah because he is shy and hides in the back of his run. He is very nervous right now but warms up once he is on a leash and out of his run. I don’t think he was socialized very well since some inanimate objects scare him although he gained more confidence as we walked. Elijah was very sweet to me while exploring an interaction pen and loves being scratched on the spot right above his tail. He knows how to sit and will work for treats. I’m almost certain he is house-trained since his run is clean, and he did his business out in the grass (it appeared he had been holding it for a long time!). This shy boy’s time could end any day since he is an owner surrender. |
